Dear Ankur, i have done class 10 from icse board and i be appearing for 12th class cbse exams in MARCH 2009. But in the application form of iit-jee 2009, in the column of “BOARD OF QUALIFYING EXAMINATION” i have written (ICSE INSTEAD of CBSE) mistooking it for the board from which i had passed class 10. Can it cause any serious consequence at the time of counselling during VERIFICATION OF IDENTITY. PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZ REPLY ME.

Hello Ankur bhaiya…
I’m presently studying in class 11th and will be appearing for IIT-JEE in 2010. I got 88.2% in boards and i was studying at Bansal till a couple of months ago. During my stay at Kota, I got myself in bad company and totally ignored studies. One of my closest friends betrayed me and i was foolish enough to keep in touch with him right till the end. I lost my path and had to face hundreds of problems there. The result was that my performance kept on degrading and i found it impossible to catch up with the rest. I never took IIT seriously and wasted those 7 precious months (i was there till october). At last, when everything seemed to get out of my control, I came back to Patna (my home town) and once again, got myself enrolled in FIITJEE (One Year Special Extended Classroom Programme). I am really disheartened and have lost all hope. Since i’ve wasted the whole year 2008, i think i’ll never be able to get a good rank in IIT (I want to goto IIT Delhi, be it any course).
I haven’t studied much in the past year. (I have completed just the first two chapters in HC Verma…logarithms, basic trigo, few portions of straight line, half of ncert in maths…and structure of atom, periodic classification, half of chemical bonding in chem). What should I do from here? Please help me. I’m really very confused. IIT is a compulsion for me. I’ve also enrolled for VMC’s correspondence course.
And i must tell you, i’ve never been a studious person. I get easily distracted. Actually, i got 88.2% in cbse boards by just studying for 4-6 hours/day for the last 45 days. And i dont think i can ever study for more than 5 hours a day (even though i’ll try my best if you say so). Can you please suggest me something so that i can boost my morale? (I am so disheartened by the happenings in the past months that i cry sometimes remembering all those horrible things that i had to go thru). and since, i dont possess a lot of perseverance and am not hard-working, i have seriously lost hope:-(…please help me…i beg you!!

and i forgot to add, i have got admission in a non-attendant school. so, i’ve plenty to time to dedicate to iit preparations…

Rahul yea that would be better if you could study from the books and do questions from the notes.
Patyush if you don’t have to go to school then indeed you have lot of time to study, just try to make a schedule study for 2 hours and then rest for half an hour this way you could easily study about 7 hours a day which is self sufficient and try to have confidence in yourself, their is still more then a year left for the IIT JEE 2010 which is much more then sufficient just try to do as much chapters as you can of 11th,just try to give 2 days to each chapter which would be self sufficient. As soon as your 12th starts forget about the 11th and study hard for the 12th then also you would be having lot of time after when the 12th syllabus is completed in which you can do your leftover 11th portion, the basic thing I wanna say is try to make your schedule and study according to it and don’t get distracted easily.

Do you mean to say that i should study at a stretch for 2 hours and then study in 30-30 minutes sessions for the rest of the day? and which books should i prefer? is H C Verma in physics along with VMC correspondence material, IIT chemistry by O.P. AGARWAL + Ncert chem, s.l. loney for trigo and co-ordinate + k.c. sinha for calculus and probability and algebra enough? is IIT Chemistry by O.P. agarwal a reliable book? i’m asking this coz there are some mistakes in the book and some topics are explained too deeply, hence it takes a lot of time to study the chapters. THANKS A LOT for your suggestions…i’ll do my best to do as you said. I’m trying a lot not to get distracted and i think i should stop watching tv, reading novels and all of my pasttime activities. Btw, bhaiya, do you know of any guy/ gal who was in the same situation as i am in and still cracked IIT with a very good rank? i have heard stories of people clearing IIT studying only for a single year with an excellent rank (top 2000)…is it true?
January 7th, 2009 at 7:02 am
so which books do u reccomend for studying the chapters and the concepts?
January 7th, 2009 at 9:56 am
Pratyush yea this is what I wanna say.For chemistry their is no need to do O.P. all you need is the basics clear just do the institutes notes as you have even enrolled for the FIITJEE and NCERT and some objective questions of some standard,I have seen in TMH chem at the end their are lot’s of exercises which is very important indeed. For Maths their is only one book indeed TMH,if you complete the full book surely you would get admission in IIT and don’t waste time in these S.L Loney and others they have so much questions on a particular topic it just waste lot of time, for physics their is no particular good I have gone through but H.C Verma is good and even D. Mukhergee is a good one,and it’s not difficult to crack the IIT’s I indeed know many who have studied in 12th and have got good rank in IIT in top 1000
Rahul I have just writte the books in the comment just above to this, please yaar take a look at it.
Talking about the chapters for IIT dont leave any chapter at all,you never know from where the question can come.
